Yes, UGC NET qualification is mandatory for Assistant Professor posts in Central Universities, colleges and institutions. Candidates with PhD are exempted in some cases as per UGC regulations.
Both qualify from same exam. JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) is awarded to top scorers — provides ₹31,000/month fellowship for research. NET without JRF qualifies only for Assistant Professor post, no fellowship.
No restriction on attempts for Assistant Professor category. For JRF, upper age limit is 30 years (35 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/women).
No, UGC NET is conducted only in English and Hindi. However, Telugu Literature is one of the 83 subjects available for Paper 2.
