What is GATE?
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted by IITs and IISc. It tests comprehensive understanding of undergraduate subjects. GATE score is used for PSU recruitment, M.Tech admissions and research fellowships.

Major PSUs: BHEL, NTPC, ONGC, IOCL, GAIL, PGCIL, BPCL, HAL, SAIL, BEL, DRDO, BARC. Each PSU sets its own GATE cutoff. AP/TS candidates can apply for all central PSUs.
What is a good GATE score for PSU jobs?
For top PSUs like ONGC, IOCL: GATE score above 700-750 (General). For other PSUs: 600-650. Score requirements vary each year based on vacancies and competition.
Is GATE score valid for 3 years?
Yes, GATE score is valid for 3 years from the year of qualification. You can use the same score for PSU applications and M.Tech admissions for 3 years.
Can Telugu students appear for GATE?
Yes, GATE is open to all Indian nationals. Many Telugu students from AP/TS appear for GATE every year. IIT Hyderabad and NIT Warangal also recruit faculty through GATE-qualified candidates.
